Dumb and dumber: East Coweta High student poses in Confederate flag and Klan hood

Teenagers do stupid things as this photo of an East Coweta High School student proves. And then they expand on their foolery by posting it on social media.

I am not sure how any teenager would think donning a Klan hood and Confederate flag and striking a pose in the school parking lot was a good idea. This is the kind of prank that can follow a teen for a long time. (See this piece to understand implications.)

East Coweta High School posted a letter today on its website addressing this idiocy. The school is not to blame here. This is on the students involved.

Here is the letter:

November 18, 2015

On Tuesday morning, in the parking lot of East Coweta High School before the start of class, a photo was taken of a student who appeared wearing a KKK-style hood and a Confederate-style flag. The photo was posted on social media.

This photo of an East Coweta High School appeared on social media Tuesday. (Twitter)

The photo came to the high school administration’s attention during the school day. The two students who were involved were identified and an immediate investigation was conducted.

From the school’s investigation, it was determined that no specific threat was made in the incident. The school system is continuing to investigate the matter, and is implementing disciplinary consequences.

The Coweta County School System does not allow behavior that infringes on the safety of its students, staff or volunteers, and does not tolerate behavior intended to bully, harass or intimidate others on our campuses.

If you have any questions regarding this incident, please do not hesitate to call me.

Sincerely,

Steve Allen, principal, East Coweta High School

Coweta County, who said it can't happen here? Fortunately for this kid, stupidity isn't a crime!

What do you expect from white males? There are no clubs or movements for them. In this time, they are just required to be ashamed of being white.  Like it or not, some may turn to such organizations if the current trend continues!

That was long before the Internet preserved such antics forever, for future employers, future colleges...I saw this story, with picture, on cnn.news. It's only a short time till the person is identified.

CNN huh?  That's funny.  I guess you have to have something to fill those empty "news" slots and there is only so much you can report about the Kardashians.

The so-called "news" media has been trying for so long to find a story about white "racists " and this is all they could come up with - two high schoolers clowning around.  Give me a break.

Lately, cnn.news has plenty to report that's coming out of Paris.

The angle this news story is usually given is that this is what's still going on in rural Georgia: same old backward bigotry, now picked up by high school 15 year-olds.

Yeah.  Don't worry about the hundreds of thousands of muslim refugees coming into this country, which no doubt would include many who are intent on committing acts of terror.  Focus instead on the high schooler joking around

@Lee_CPA2 @OriginalProf @Carlos_Castillo  Oh, get real. We don't live in Europe. We don't have hundreds of thousands of any refugees coming into this country, Muslim or Christian. It looks like the Syrians and Iraqis whom we have admitted are going to be re-vetted closely by the FBI. Calm down.

In other news outlets, I'm seeing this student referred to as "him," but the shoes and legs look feminine to me. I know gender doesn't really matter, but it surprises me when females behave this way, so I hope I'm wrong.

I wonder how classmates are reacting.  My guess is: this student and her family will experience some degree of shunning by former friends.  Back when I was in school, such a student would find it easier (socially) to transfer than to continue at the same place.   Does school culture still work that way?

Has this student been identified, either by the school or on the social media?  If so, karma will be effectively served by means of the Internet with its long memory.

Not dumb, but racist.  Call it what it is.

I can think of a lot of ideas that teenagers have come up with that are dumber.  Drinking/Taking drugs and driving for one.  My pre-teen would always tell me, "Teenagers are idiots."  So-teenager does something stupid.  That's like saying the sun rose today.  What else is new?  Most of them survive their mistakes and learn.

I see Maureen and the politically correct pathogens down at the AJC are ignoring the bullying, harassing, and physical assaults of the "black lives matter" bunch, but let a teenager don his Casper the Friendly Ghost Halloween costume, and the Marxists go into dry heaves.

What, that I recognize this for what it is - an immature high schooler joking around?

Now, if there were 30-40 of them marching into a college library, chanting, and physically assaulting other students who do not join them, then we have a problem.

Oh wait, the library event DID happen.  Only thing, it was a bunch of "black lives matter" pathogens who did it.

So, the physical assaults and racial intimidation gets ignored, but a solitary teen who posts a picture of himself draped in the Confederate flag gets front page coverage.

Gotcha.

Deflection. Given the history surrounding this get-up (and why do you ignore the KKK hood??), it's an attempt to taunt and intimidate other black students of this school. Or at the least, make a statement that they are inferior and second-class citizens. If indeed the student is just "joking around," then a valuable lesson about respecting the feelings of others needs to be taught by that school.  And maybe you need to learn it too...even though you seem to be an older white man who's never been threatened by those emblems of hatred. (Not so long ago, a person dressed like this was a warning that your house would be burned down. Jews got that warning too.)

@OriginalProf @Lee_CPA2 The KKK is a joke these days.  They are a tiny group of clowns who are best ignored.  Wearing the hood is a sign of being stupid, not a threat.

I've read that they've had a resurgence in N. Ga. since around 2010, threatening the many Hispanic immigrants in the area. And it seems that ever since the black church massacre in Charleston, there's been a definite revival of Confederate symbolism with some wearing the hood in marches and demonstrations. For just where did a white rural 15 year-old get the idea of putting all this on? Where did he/she get the flag, the hood? Had to come from adults.

@OriginalProf @bu2 @Lee_CPA2

Where did he get the hood?  I heard from a reliable source that it was the hood that Clevon Little wore in Blazing Saddles.

I doubt it came from adults - ours look a lot better than that.
